The REAL problem with Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Goblet of treason...

There has been a lot of noise about Zimbabwe Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ‘Goblet of Treason’-that infamous mug inscribed ‘I’m THE BOSS’ which many have seen as a definitive statement on Zimbabwe’s contentious succession politics.

Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Goblet of 'FIRE"

Many are contemplating who will succeed the veteran leader Robert Mugabe, who is currently on vacation, as the Vice President takes temporary charge.

Some have seen the mug to be distasteful.

Yes, there is something wrong with the picture; but it is anything BUT the inscription on the mug.

First and foremost that a WHOLE Vice President (in Zimbabwean media clichéd parlance) has his ice-in a metal flat base plate hits a dent at his class.

Certainly ndiro yesimbi, as it is famously known, is the last place second-in-command should be using to store his ice as he sips his whisky. A definite no-no.

Second of all, there are no tongs to lift the ice cubes. And in a time of cholera and typhoid and erratic water supply, goodness knows what happens when someone slips through the cheap toilet paper after a quick number two.

And yes, there IS something wrong with the mug after all. Whisky? Johnnie Walker Blue Label in a coffee mug? Enough said.

With his porcelain tea sets, exquisite tastes for the best decorum, appreciation for high tea, cucumber sandwiches, crisp clean starched shirts and immaculate presidential cuff-links it is no wonder President Robert Mugabe is still ultimately the boss.

Head and shoulders above the rest certainly.

And lessons on etiquette are certainly something the aged political god can dish to his deputies no doubt.
